Introduction: Maracatu Brasil - Cultural Tourism

The music of Brazil encompasses various regional music styles influenced by African, European and Amerindian forms. After 500 years of history, Brazilian music developed some unique and original styles such as samba, bossa nova, MPB, tropicalia, choro, maracatu, frevo, forró and axé,

Children in Brazil grow up from the very first moment surrounded by all this music and percussion. It is astonishing how they can sing along practically every music whereas an average Swiss hardly knows his own anthem. Music is in their moves, in their voice and in their language.

A sense of rhythm is in their DNA. Seeing a Brazilian drummer perform is something sensational. And you can observe this at every street corner, being them tapping the match box or a glass against the beer bottle.

It may come as a surprise to you, though, that everyone can learn that. It is never too late, not even for the Swiss chap. And there is one unique place that blends lessons of rhythms with lessons of live.

Prepare to change your life. You are just one click away from it.

Brazilian Music: Workshop Rhythms (exclusive & unique!)

Rhythms learned in the workshop: Samba, Quadrilha, Ciranda, Frevo, Bumba Boi, Afoxé, Brazilian Funk, Coco, Jongo, Congo and others.
About the workshop:
The Project is the result of the vast experience of the many high class percussionists' musical and educational experiences throughout the world. With a bold approach, the course aims teaching rhythms to people, with or without musical experience, and to improve their talents.

Cultural Highlight: Rio Social Project

The need from young pople to be involved more in social projects lead to the foundation of this social project. Since it was founded at the same time as the arrival of the UPP (Unit of Police Pacification) in February 2011, the whole area became a safer place.
The focus of the project is to appreciate the surroundings, as its location has spectacular views, as well as promoting the residents' personal and cultural stories, with a focus on the importance of preserving the environment.
B.I.T is trying to develop a method of Self-Sustaining Tourism, which will hopefully promote the exchange of ideas between the community and our visitors, and will be financially beneficial leading to real jobs for the community's adolescents.
After the arrival fruit juices and mineral water will be served.
At the main house of the community, an introduction into the project and its adolescnets follows, including two short movies with a total duration of 10 minutes. Brazilian Music: Forró Experience

Forró is the most popular genre in Brazil's Northeast. It has evolved into a number of subgenres. Traditional forró, played with only three instruments (accordion, zabumba and a metal triangle), is now known as forró pé-de-serra. This traditional forró was created by Luiz Gonzaga, who transformed the baião (a word originated from baiano and assigned a warm-up for artists to search for inspiration before playing) into a more sophisticated rhythm. In later years, forró achieved popularity throughout Brazil, in the form of a slower genre known as xote.
There are three rhythms of forró, xote (a slower-paced rhythm), baião (the original forró) and arrasta-pé (the fastest of the three).
